The national boxing champion Renu Gora serving tea at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala was published in the Hindustan Times, explaining the pathetic state of Indian sportspersons.Apart from serving tea, she also washes dishes as per the instructions of her officials. Speaking on this the champion said, “I have to follow orders, even if it means serving visitors. I don’t like it one bit but I cannot afford to disobey my seniors.”
When another TV news channel approached her, she had a different version to tell. She stated that she was promised a job in the Railways and when the job did not come through she decided to take up a coaching course at the Institute and found herself doing the waitress’ job.
Renu won a bronze medal at the world boxing championship in the year 2006.
